As we all approach the time of school summer holidays, I started to reminisce very fondly about my own childhood of many many years ago!! This led me to think about one of the IB Learner Profile qualities; that of Risk Taking.
For me it was about riding my bike to new places, climbing the most difficult trees or attempting to master the overhead football kick. These were all new to me in many ways.
From this, I concluded how risk taking at whatever level, is such a basic and valuable component in everyone’s development. The important part is that “risks” are not always about danger, but about stepping outside of our own comfort zones and trying new things. Every member of our SISQ Community will have their own unique examples of the “risks” they took and the courage required to do so.
I look forward to meeting you all in September, and hearing about your “Summer Risk taking”. Before this I leave you with the words of one of my favourite “risk takers”; Sir Richard Branson.
“My success has been driven by the courage to try. I am not the bravest or the smartest person, but I am courageous enough to dream big, challenge myself and take bold risks. The courage to say, “let’s do this” has lead me on the journey of a lifetime”
Have a fantastic summer break!
