According to The United Nations World Food Programme (UN-WFP), the world's largest humanitarian organisation, 1 in 9 people go to bed hungry every night. That's over 690 million hungry people around the world.
But did you know that you can help by simply playing a game? It is actually playing, learning and helping all at the same time! This is what our students have been busy doing in their free time since last year.
Through the UN-WFP's Freerice, an educational trivia game that helps anyone get smarter while making a difference for people around the world, Swiss International School students take part and donate grains of rice to achieve #ZeroHunger.
Students get to develop their skills in vocabulary, languages, geography and maths by playing educational games. For each correct answer, students get 10 grains of rice, and 100 grains of rice get converted to a bowl of food which gets delivered to a needy child.
Last academic year, our school raised over 250,000. To date, we have doubled the figure as we have already donated 597,911 grains. Among our students, Abrar is leading with over 80,000 rice grains donated, while Ghanim has already raised 72,857 grains. Abdulla is third with 70,120. Indeed a fantastic SISQ spirit!
Freerice makes giving back easy! To take part and help SISQ group raise more grains of rice, go to https://www.freerice.com/, sign up, click Groups from the menu, join existing group (the SISQ group) by entering the group code U8EAYN5D and play for a good cause!
