The ninth edition of Doha Film Institute’s Ajyal Film Festival had Malak, Grade 8 SISQ student, as one of the jurors.
This ever-popular Jury program has been a valuable learning opportunity for students to acquire diverse knowledge about cultures through the global stories presented in the films. As Jurors, students watched selected films, discussed with fellow jurors and film experts, voted for the winners of the Ajyal Film Festival and used their energy to bring positive change far beyond Ajyal.
Malak had a very good impression of the festival. "It has been a very amazing experience being part of the Ajyal Jury this year. I didn't just watch some films and rate them, but I also participated in various workshops and discussions with very successful personalities and film producers and directors from whom I learned a lot. The pandemic didn't stop the Ajyal Team from launching their festival and doing such amazing things like they always do”, Malak said. “I highly encourage my fellow SISQ students to participate in next year's edition", she added.
According to Mr Abdelkader, Malak’s father, “My daughter Malak has always been motivated to undertake this voluntary experience, as inspired by her love for cinematic works and her desire to explore the world of filmmaking. My family is also honoured and grateful for the certificate sent to Malak by the festival administration, signed by HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, in appreciation of her contribution as a juror which, as they put it, inspires film culture and education among the youth in Qatar."
Well done, Malak!
Passion for film and theatre play. Here's a throwback to Malak's lead role in their World Literature Play in Arabic, "Heidi, Girl of the Alps" (March 2020).
