Homework and Assessments

Assessments enable us know what has been learned. Assessment is an integral piece of the learning cycle and formative assessments are happening daily as teachers observe, monitor and give quality feedback to the students to help them improve their work. End of unit summative assessments measure and evaluate the depth of understanding a student has. The focus at all times is on learning, progress and growth.

Four main principles guide our approach to assessment.

• Assessments need to be fair: created in a way that students understand the criteria and what is expected from them.
• Assessments need to be varied: to accommodate the different preferred learning styles of individual children and consistent across grade levels.
  
  We align our assessment practices with PYP classroom practices: authentic, transdisciplinary by nature and relevant to the real world.
