All individuals in the Caring Chameleons have settled in well. They developed an understanding of their daily routines, worked together to create the class’ essential agreements and even discussed and the voted, the order of importance. Our number one rule: Be Strong and Brave.
Last week they learnt the importance of being a caring individual and this week they have learnt what it means to be principled. Students discovered what the word honest means and explored ways it makes them a better learner.
In our Unit of Inquiry, the students have had discussions, looked at family photographs and created some pieces of artwork while exploring different mediums. In a class activity, students needed to list the importance of different items, after a much heated discussion and debate, they came to their own conclusion that family was of an extremely high importance and the iPhone was not.

Grade 5 have been busy working hard on a range of tasks this week. In mathematics, the students have focused on multiplication methods whilst also trying to conquer some of my maths puzzles. Try this one: Using only addition, how can you add eight 8's to get the number 1,000?
During our Inquiry lessons, we have moved on to exploring communities in other countries. We have learnt about a 4 year old girl who lives in a tree-house 90 feet (30m) in the air, been on a virtual tour of the Amazon River and reinforced our understanding of 'Respect'.
Our Cultural Studies group (led by Gonzalo) produced a fantastic video about Spain which you can see on the various SISQ social media platforms. Kendra will be leading the group from next week as we inquire into South Africa.
I look forward to hearing more about your learning at home so keep questioning, exploring the world and tackling those word problems!
Have a great weekend!

It’s been an active and busy start to the PHE curriculum for MYP students who have certainly risen to the challenge. We started the year with some team challenges where students developed key skills of teamwork, communication, leadership and cooperation while working on solving problems and making effective decisions. Recently, we started our unit on fitness. Students are conducting various fitness test on themselves and setting targets for improvement. They have been learning about the different components of fitness and what various tests measure. For example, last week all students took part in the ‘Cooper Run’, a twelve minute running challenge that measures endurance. Over the coming weeks all MYP students will work on strategies to improve their fitness, such as circuit training, before re-testing to see the results.
