The school opened its doors in January 2017 with 20 children in the nursery and has enjoyed rapid growth over the last two years. We start the 2019-20 year with over 700 children. SISQ has been recognised as the fastest growing international school in the region, with a truly international school community consisting of just under 70 nationalities. The school was established as a partnership between the State of Qatar and Bellevue Education, a leading international education provider with schools across the UK, Switzerland, France and in Qatar.
As an IB continuum school, SISQ offers the internationally recognised IB curriculum to children aged 3 to 18. The school officially received its accreditations for the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma Programmes in Spring 2019. This followed a rigorous authorisation process conducted by the IB Organisation (IBO). The school is one of the very few schools that have gone through the authorisation process for all three programmes (PYP, MYP, DP) at the same time and completed it in just two years.
Throughout the IB verification process, SISQ was commended for its commitment to the IB philosophy and values. According to Dr Nancy Le Nezet, Deputy Head of School, “the team of educators that founded SISQ already had extensive IB experience from previous international schools and was able to quickly build a healthy learning culture, aligning the school’s values and standards to the high quality standards of the IB”.
Philip Bradley, Head of School, said “I am of course delighted that SISQ has achieved triple IB authorisation in record time and without a doubt the IB curriculum is the gold standard, with global recognition. But I am equally proud of the attention we have paid to ensuring a caring learning focused school culture and an international student body. This combination ensures our students are well equipped for the future, wherever that might be!”
The IB curriculum, focus on language learning and the special blend of Swiss and international values has helped SISQ become a leading international school in Qatar, and an alternative to the more traditional curricula offered by other schools in the region.
“When we first partnered with the State of Qatar to set up SISQ, our vision was to create a school that welcomed the truly international community of families living in Doha, and would meet the aspirations these families had for their children” said Mark Malley, CEO and Founder of Bellevue Education, who has been personally involved in setting up the school since the beginning. Mr Malley continued: “The leadership team and the staff of SISQ has done a tremendous job in ensuring they provide a strong curriculum, great teaching and personal care that ensures every child flourishes and succeeds at SISQ. Receiving their IB accreditation in record time is a testament to the passion and dedication the entire leadership, teaching and administrative team at SISQ has for the school and its families.”
