Visit of the Swiss Ambassador, his Excellency Etienne Thévoz at SISQ

This morning we were honoured to have the Ambassador of Switzerland to Qatar, His Excellency Etienne Thévoz, at the Swiss International School.

His Excellency’s involvement with SISQ started before we had any buildings, teachers or students. Our Head of School, Mr. Bradley, thanked His Excellency for his skill and diplomacy that has led us to where we are today.

His Excellency spoke about Swiss education and Swiss values: honesty, hard work, tolerance and a sense of responsibility.  He also talked about the importance of reading and donated books to the SISQ library.

His Excellency mentioned the benefits of single-sex education and the importance of celebrating the differences of genders. For example, in single gender classrooms, girls tend to perform better in traditionally male-dominated subjects such as Mathematics and Science as well as in traditionally “feminine” subjects such as Music and Arts. The single sex environment also supports boys in achieving higher results in Mathematics and Science than when in a co-ed setting.
